When the Stories Fall Away
Change begins when we release the stories we've been telling ourselves all our lives. For e.g.“I have to have _____”, or “ Without ____ I cannot be happy”... Change begins when we put down our expectations and say to life, "Show me the way." In doing that, you begin asking a different question: "What's being given to me right now?"

This I Believe: Reflecting on Creedal Statements
What do we believe, what does it mean, and what difference does it make for our lives and for the life of the world? Creeds are recited at Eucharist and worship services and in many other liturgical settings, yet we seldom reflect on what it is exactly that we are professing. This course will provide participants with an opportunity to review and reflect on the foundations and fundamentals of their faith—and to deepen their understanding of how faith professions and lived existence come together in patterns of meaning and value.

The Evolution of Christianity
This course will address the way Christianity defined itself in the Biblical period. It will then explore how the simple structure of the first century evolved into ever more complex forms. The assets and liabilities of this development will be assessed. We shall trace the journey through time, with emphasis on the two most serious institutional traumas of the journey, namely, the split between East and West in the 11th century and the split in the West between Catholics and reformers in 16th century. The course will include a retrospective on the development in the light of Vatican II and a projection of future possibilities in the third millenium. The course will reflect not only on institutional issues but on competing and changing spiritualities.
Afternoon Courses

The Spirituality of Ghandi, Merton, Day, Martin Luther Kind, Jr.|
This course will deal with four prophets and guides of the twentieth century. All of them had in common a commitment to non-violence but all of them developed their spirituality in different ways. We shall search for the biography and spirituality of each of these epoch-changing personalities. Gandhi found his spiritual center in ways quite different from Merton's journey to his center. Both of these found their inspiration in very different religious systems. Dorothy Day and Martin Luther King differed not only in their diverse church traditions, but also in their respective commitments to personal witness and political action. The mosaic of these four individuals gives us an insight into creative ways to develop our own spiritual witness.

A LIVING GOD: SPIRITUALITY FOR ADULTS
How adequate is our imaging of God for who God is? How adequate is our imaging of God for who we are? Can our imaging of God undergo transformation as we grow and develop and how does this transformation happen? Three more questions frame this course: Why is our relating to God so often presented as static and not developing as we ourselves grow and mature? Why are so many adults still living with a God of childhood and adolescence, a superego God: How might mature adults find a Living God?

THE BIBLE AND CONTEMPORARY ISSUES
The course will look at how the Bible might help us address the following contemporary issues: integrity of creation; economic justice; ethnic diversity, and peace.
